City of Hemet Veteran’s Day Celebration: November 11th

The City of Hemet, CA will host a Veteran’s Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 11, 2013.

The all-ages event will be held at Gibbel Park, which is known for its memorial of all United States military branches. The 11-acre park includes picnic areas, lots of open space and restrooms, among other amenities.

According to the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event, participants will offer demonstrations and military displays along with face-painting and a variety of food.

Veteran’s Day traces its origins to the last day of World War I combat. The armistice went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Today, many communities throughout the U.S. honor all American war veterans by celebrating Veteran’s Day with ceremonies, pageantry and gatherings of people of all ages to celebrate the nation’s freedom and veterans’ roles in ensuring that freedom.
