Keeping Your Teen Safe On The Road When Going Back to School

Safe Driving Tips

Even though school is not quite in session, the first day is getting closer and closer. If your teenager got their license over the summer vacation, you may be a little nervous about them driving to school alone. Share these back to school safe driving tips with them to ensure that they stay safe each time they head to the classroom.

  • Never text or talk on the phone while behind the wheel. Not only is using your phone illegal, but it is also very dangerous. If you have to make a call or send a text, pull over to a safe spot on the side of the road.
  • Whenever you get into the car, make sure to put on your seatbelt. All passengers should also be wearing seatbelts at all times when in the vehicle.
  • Pay attention to the speed limit and do not exceed it. Speeding shortens the amount of time that you have to safely react to a dangerous situation on the road ahead. Excessive speed is one of the most common causes of car accidents with teen drivers.
  • Do not blare music while you are driving. Even though it may seem harmless, loud music in your car can be just as dangerous as using your cell phone.
  • Never try to squeeze more people in the car than there are seatbelts. Everyone should have a proper seatbelt in your car at all times.
  • Follow all traffic signs and lights on the road. Never run a red light or stop sign, even if it seems like there is nobody around. Even when the light turns green, make sure that the intersection is clear before crossing.
