Tips to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Its Best
Air Conditioning Maintenance
The hot summer temperatures are here, which means you are probably reaching for your air conditioner more often. However, do you remember the last time you cleaned your A/C unit? Keeping your air conditioner clean can help it run more efficiently, keeping you cool all season long. Keep these summer tips in mind to keep your air conditioning working its best.
- Filter – regularly changing out your air conditioning filters is the most important step you can take to extend the life of your air conditioner. Dirty, clogged filters block normal airflow, which will reduce the efficiency of your unit.
- Coils – the evaporator coil and condenser coil will collect dirt over the years that they are used, even if you keep up with your filter changing schedule. Cleaning off your evaporator coil every year can help to ensure that it is properly absorbing heat.
- Coil fins – if the aluminum fins on your evaporator and condenser coils bend back, they can block the airflow through the coil. Investing in a “fin comb” will help to keep the fins in the proper position.
- Condensate drains – passing a stiff wire through your A/C units drain channels can help to keep them unclogged, allowing it to properly reduce the humidity in your house. Clogged channels can cause the excess moisture in your house to discolor your carpet or walls.
- Window seals for room air conditioners – if you have an air conditioning unit that sits on your window, regularly check the seals between the window frame and air conditioner unit to ensure that it is forming a tight seal.
