Breakout the holiday lights, hang your stockings, and trim the Christmas tree! While holiday décor is fun and festive, it can also be dangerous. They can cause injury as well as considerable damage to your home. As you prepare to decorate for the holiday season, keep these holiday safety tips in mind to avoid any decorating mishaps.

1. Keep your Christmas tree fresh and hydrated! A dry tree is a fire hazard. Make sure to periodically fill the tree stand with water and check the needles for breakage. A healthy tree should have minimal needle breakage.
2. Make sure your artificial Christmas tree is fire-resistant.
3. Don’t use lights on a metallic tree. They pose a fire hazard.
4. Clear stoves, radiators, vents, fireplaces, and other heated places in your home of any decorations to prevent any fires.
5. Position your tree away from any walkways or doorways to avoid any accidental tumbles.
