3 Essential BBQ Safety Tips

BBQ safety tipsHaving a BBQ means having a great time with friends and family while enjoying great food.  This gathering can quickly plunge south if the proper safety precautions are not taken.

1. Food Safety

Before you spark up the grill and place your favorite foods on it, you need to make sure the food is safe.  There are many misconceptions when food safety is concerned.  Many foods spoil because they have not been thawed properly.  When you are unthawing food, especially meats, place the food in the refrigerator instead of letting it sit out overnight.  The main rule that you need to keep in mind is that bacteria can grow at any temperature that is above freezing, and can stay alive and thrive until the temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Following Instructions

You may be the BBQ king, but how do you rank when the time comes to follow directions?  Whether you are putting a new grill together or trying a new recipe, following directions are essential for having the most favorable and successful outcome.  Take the time to read instructions because they could help you avoid accidents later on.

3. Fire Safety

Fire is a sure sign that the BBQ has begun, but there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.  Many people are aware that fire is the most destructive force in the world, but when it comes to the BBQ, some people seem to put the danger of fires in the back of their mind.  The primary rule in this situation is to keep a fire extinguisher nearby.  Fires cause millions of dollars in damages each year and many deaths that can be prevented.  It will be in your best interest to have a designated person who is in charge of the fire at all time.

You cannot have a BBQ without an exciting, main dish.  There is one BBQ recipe that will certainly please your guest’s taste buds.  The cuts of meat are one thing, but the sauce is what takes the cake!
