Congratulations!  Your child graduated, and is ready to take on the world, and start their journey of life.  Graduation is a time for students and families to celebrate, but this is also a time to worry.  Graduates often want to celebrate their success which is great, but there are many different things that can transpire during the celebration, before, and after the fact.

1. Texting and Driving

Texting and driving is an issue that seems to have taken the world by storm.  Many people, teens especially, have lost their life due to texting and driving.  There are many different apps that can be downloaded to ensure safe driving which include AT&T DriveMode, DriveSafe.ly, Textecution, DriveScribe, and Text-STAR.

2. Initiating Contact

It will be in the best interest of the graduate and parent to remain in constant contact.  You may want to check on your teen periodically throughout the evening and night to make sure that they are okay.  When you remain in contact with your child, you have a better chance of knowing where your child is and where they are going.

3. Open Discussion

Before your happy graduate begins their celebration, you may want to sit down and have a talk.  As a parent, it will be up to you to make sure that your child knows how to handle themselves in different situations, such as drinking and driving, and the consumption of illegal drugs.  You may also want to discuss peer pressure and how not to succumb to people pressuring them to engage in sexual activity.

4. The 411

Before you let your child have a great time, get all of the information you need, such as where they intend on going to hang out, who will be supervising the events, who they plan on attending the events with, and when they will be home.
